Today, the team behind Travel Ticker would like to share a short, but super fun list of five of the best destinations around the globe for adventurous travelers just like you and me! To travel to each of these places is a guaranteed adventure since they are all truly spectacular and well-known for their adventure activities. So, without any further ado – let’s check the list.
Tarifa is a small town in Spain and probably a dream come true for all adventurous travelers who also love active leisure, since, here, everyone who dares can enjoy wind and kite surfing.
Tarifa is not just a sunny beach town near Gibraltar that is known for its perfect winds. It is also a great city for people who adore the rocky hills. The hills are really popular among climbers and hikers whose hard work climbing is rewarded with incredible sunsets over the Strait with the silhouette of Morocco in the background.
If you’ve seen the popular movie ‘Avatar’ and dreamed of walking or flying around those huge floating mountains in the distant Pandora planet, you can actually do it among the land formations that inspired it – in Zhangjiajie.
All adventurous travelers can enjoy simple walking or hiking through sandstone landscapes, such as the Xianren Qiao, or the ‘Bridge of the Immortals’. Don’t miss Huang Shi Zhai, the highest village in the area.
ANGKOR WAT, CAMBODIA
This adventure destination was also in the movie. This time – Tomb Raider. The ruins of this ancient Khmer kingdom are a majestic and inspiring place to explore history and hike in the Cambodian jungle.
Angkor Wat was built in the first half of the 12th century and it is amazing that it is still standing in pretty good shape! The temple was originally dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu, but subsequently became a Buddhist shrine. Angkor Wat is an architectural masterpiece filled with multiple columns, squares, roofs and carvings, and it’s a fantastic adventure to walk around.
Yukon offers some of the most beautiful landscapes for adventure travelers. The capital of Whitehorse – one of Canada’s regions – is a good spot to set up a base before heading out to do activities such as glacial whitewater rafting and alpine climbing.
You can also try ‘flight seeing’ in this incredible place, which involves booking a small plane to fly up to the top of a glacier and going for a hike from there. This place is famous for polar nights and days and the long hours of daylight during the summer mean more time to enjoy Yukon’s natural beauty. Try to visit on or near June 21, as the sun never sets on the day of the summer solstice, making a trip here even more amazing.
DIAMOND HIGHLANDS, BRAZIL
Brazil is around the same size as the United States, and it offers not only beautiful beaches and parties but tons of adventurous activities as well. This is especially true in a region called the Diamond Highlands. Here you will see beautiful waterfalls and swim in Poco Azul, a natural underground cavern pool. Many travelers have described the area as a perfect giant garden, filled with wild orchids and other exotic plants, making it the perfect location for couples as well.
While in the country, don’t forget to explore the sanctuary of Mucugezinho with its waterfalls, along with the flooded Cave Partinha and crystal-clear Lake Paratinha. For more adventurous activities, take a hike up the tabletop mountain Morro Pai Inácio. Many of the region’s waterfalls run over large, flat rocks that overlap and adventurous visitors can slide down the rocks in their swimsuits if they want to.
