Then, read on to find out the best spots in Queenstown to ski and snowboard.
CORONET PEAK
Just 20 minutes from Queenstown, Coronet Peak is one of the most desired ski resorts in New Zealand. This ski resort opened in 1947 and is New Zealand’s longest-running commercial ski field. With well-groomed runs for both beginners and advanced skiers and snowboarders, this resort is sure to have something to keep everyone busy on the slopes—not to mention the amazing scenery and gorgeous views that you can enjoy on your way up on one of their eight lifts. The main lifts are centred in order to allow patrons to be able to reach almost any run on the hill. The runs interact with one another, which allows visitors to make every run down the mountain a unique experience. If you’re looking for something even more unique, Coronet Peak also offers night skiing, which is definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience that gives the mountain a whole new look and feel!
THE REMARKABLES
A little further from town lie The Remarkables. Just a 45 minute drive outside the city will take you to the Remarkables Mountain Range to try out one of their seven trails and three terrains. The assortment of trails allows both beginners and pros to have fun on the slopes. And with almost four metres of snowfall, this mountain really makes you feel like you are in an alpine wonderland.
CARDRONA ALPINE RESORT
Cardrona Alpine Resort gears itself towards beginner and intermediate skiers. With a multitude of beginner ski packages, it offers a gondola chairlift to get to the top of the mountain. If you’re into terrain parks, Cardona is home to the most extensive park in the Southern Hemisphere to try out your skills in.
TREBLE CONE
For off-piste terrain, head to Treble Cone. This mountain is typically the least crowded, but has one of the best views! It offers an unmatched view of the Southern Lakes as you make tracks through the fresh snow.
HELI-SKIING
If you want even more excitement, the adventure capital of New Zealand has it for you with Heli-skiing. Hop on a ‘copter and make your way to the top of a mountain for an unparalleled experience.

It’s the one and only place I’ve been skiing. I highly recommend it! You can ski on either island, but around Queensland is particularly popular.
