5 Awesome Experiences in Las Vegas that Aren’t Casinos

April 11, 2019 by Arianwen Morris 1 Comment

The casinos are a big part of what makes Las Vegas such a great draw for millions of tourists every year. However, what some vacationers don’t realise is that there is actually a lot more to the city than just visiting The Strip, an more than one reason why it’s gained fame as the entertainment capital of the world.

Whether you’re into live sports, gourmet cuisine, exotic cars or adrenaline-pumping activities, there’s something for everyone. Keep reading to discover five awesome experiences in Las Vegas that aren’t casinos.

PILOT A PLANE AT SKY COMBAT ACE

Sure, you could book a helicopter ride over the city, but if you want a truly incredible aviation experience, you need to check out Sky Combat Ace. Rather than just seeing the Nevada landscape from the passenger seat, you will have the opportunity to take the controls and experience the ultimate joyride. There are all sorts of packages to choose from, so whether you’re interested in trying out some basic or advanced aerobatics or you’re more into the idea of dogfighting, there’s something that suits everyone. Guests can also purchase videos or photos for an additional fee.

The instructors at Sky Combat Ace are certified and must complete rigorous training before employment. The planes are well maintained and constructed using the best and most durable materials. Every precaution is taken to ensure the safety of guests and flight instructors. Despite the precautions, though, this is one heart stopping experience that will really get your adrenaline pumping!

PLAY WITH SOME HEAVY EQUIPMENT AT DIG THIS LAS VEGAS

If you’ve ever marvelled at massive excavators or dreamed of taking the controls of a bulldozer, you have to check out Dig This Las Vegas. Touted as the world’s heavy equipment playground, this unique destination provides an opportunity to take control of a bulldozer, excavator, skid steer or mini excavator. Guests can participate in a wide range of activities, including digging trenches, moving tires, or even playing bucket basketball. Feeling frustrated? Then you’ll definitely want to unleash your anger in the ‘Aggression Session’, where participants are given 30 minutes to destroy a car using a 30,000-pound excavator.

Dig This Las Vegas offers experiences for individuals aged four and up. They also have group experiences and host birthday parties. No matter which experience you choose, you’ll get to sit behind the controls of a climate-controlled cab, so there’s no need to worry about the Las Vegas heat.

ENJOY A DRINK (AND HAIRCUT!) IN THE BARBERSHOP

It’s no secret that Sin City is home to plenty of places to get a great drink. What might surprise you, though, is that there are some lesser-known spots that are reminiscent of the bygone prohibition era. If you are looking for a Las Vegas bar that’s miles away from ordinary, you have to stop by The Barbershop…if you can find it, that is.

The Barbershop is a hidden gem that’s tucked away inside The Cosmopolitan. There are no big, flashy lights pointing your way to this modern-day speakeasy. Instead, it’s hidden behind an unassuming janitor’s door. Once you step inside, you’re transported to a prohibition-style bar with a twist. In addition to serving up the best craft beers and cocktails, The Barbershop is home to some of the best barbers in Las Vegas. That’s right…you can enjoy an old-fashioned straight-razor shave or haircut while sipping on your favourite beverage. How cool is that?

The Barbershop is a unique concept bar that combines both form and function to create an experience that you don’t want to miss.

GAIN A NEW CITY PERSPECTIVE ON THE HIGH ROLLER

The High Roller observation wheel is the tallest Ferris wheel in the world and an amazing spot for viewing the city in a whole new way. Buy a ticket and you will find yourself soaring a whopping 550 feet above the Las Vegas Strip. From the top, you’ll have breathtaking 360-degree views of both The Strip and the Las Vegas Valley. It takes 30 minutes for the wheel to complete a single revolution, and there are 28 comfortable, spacious cabins for guests.

If you want to take your High Roller experience to the next level, upgrade to an open-bar cabin! A Happy Half Hour ticket gets you a 30-minute rotation in a cabin featuring an open bar and a bartender. Happy Half Hour tickets are available to guests over the age of 21 daily from 12 p.m. through to 1 a.m. VIP private cabins and packages are also available for special events such as birthdays, bachelor parties and even weddings.

EXPERIENCE OLD LAS VEGAS AT THE NEON MUSEUM

Las Vegas has a way of blowing up and dismantling establishments that are no longer profitable or meet the needs of modern tourists. While the buildings are usually reduced to rubble, their iconic signs often make their way to the Neon Museum where they are restored and put on display. Founded in 1996, this open-air museum sits on six acres of land and features signs from now-defunct hotels, casinos, restaurants, and so on.

The Neon Museum offers guided and self-guided tours, as well as private tours. Whichever option you choose, you’ll get to see signs from the Golden Nugget, the Stardust Hotel and Casino, and many other famous attractions. The Neon Museum is amazing at any time of day, but if you visit in the evening, you’ll get to see some of the restored signs lit up and glowing as they did decades ago on The Strip. If you’re looking for an interesting way to experience the history of Las Vegas, the Neon Museum is a must-see attraction.

CONCLUSION

Las Vegas is famous for its casinos, but they aren’t the only attractions that are worth visiting! The places listed above are just a few of the many destinations where you can enjoy an awesome experience in Sin City.
