Most people go on holiday to Dubai to admire the amazing architecture, shop in some of the biggest shopping malls in the world and stay in a luxury hotel. They’re quite content lying back on a sun lounger on one of Dubai’s best beaches, reading a book and sipping a piña colada. If, on the other hand, you’re looking for adventure, here are some great suggestions of things you should try when you’re on holiday in Dubai.
DO A SKYDIVE
Dubai is one of the best places in the world to go skydiving because you can do it right over the legendary Palm Jumeirah – the largest artificial island in the world. The views are specular and it’ll certainly be something you never forget.
It’ll cost you 1,750 Dhs (approx. £330) for a tandem jump with a videographer and you’ll need to book at least a couple of months before your visit as slots fill up fast. Visit Sky Dubai for more details and to book.
GO FOR A KITEBOARDING LESSON
Take a trip to Kite Beach, off Jumeirah Beach Road. There, you can try kiteboarding for 350 Dhs (approx. £65). Kiteboarding is a mixture of surfing, snowboarding, paragliding and windsurfing. Your instructor will teach you everything you need to know and at the end of your one to one lesson you’ll be a kiteboarding convert. For more information, visit Kitesurf School Dubai.
Dubai is a great place to visit if you love water sports. Why not go waterskiing and windsurfing during your holiday too?
VISIT A WATERPARK
Dubai has some great water parks and the Aquaventure Water Park on The Palm is arguably the best. You should definitely tackle the Leap of Faith slide, which involves a vertical drop from nine stories high. Also take a ride on the Aquaconda, the world’s largest water slide.
There are so many amazing waterslides and rides to get your heart racing that you can easily spend a day here. At Poseidon’s Revenge, you have to wait in a capsule before the floor opens and you fall at speeds of up 35 miles per hour, before being turned upside down. It’s definitely not a ride for the faint hearted!
JUMP ON A BIKE
If you want to explore Dubai’s wild side, why not tackle one of its challenging mountain bike routes?
You’ll love riding through the Hatta mountains and seeing lizards, snakes and wild donkeys as you whizz by. There are three main trails you can take. Beginners should take the green trail which is 5 km long. Next up is the blue trail at 3.6 km long, and finally the red trail for experienced mountain bikers is 3.2 km long. EXPLORE THE OCEAN
During your holiday you really should go on a diving trip in a speedboat. The best places to scuba dive are Musandam, the Arabian Gulf and the East Coast.
There are some great shipwrecks you can explore. Your instructor can take you to where the Anchor Barge was sunk in 1998, and you can go inside the cabin and see plenty of cuttle fish, oysters and scallops. The Zainab was a ship that was sunk in 2001 and is home to large rays, bat fish and yellow snappers. You might also want to visit the ship wrecks of the Hopper Barge and the Cement Barge.
If you dive in Musandam you can get up close and personal with whale sharks, turtles and rays. Just make sure you take an underwater camera with you so you can snap away to your heart’s delight.
We hope this blog post has inspired you to visit Dubai and try some of the activities we’ve mentioned above. Dubai is a wonderful holiday destination and should be a place you visit at least once in your lifetime.
