Many people take a holiday at least once a year. They may visit family, visit a holiday home or simply head for the closest beach area. A ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ holiday is a little different. If this is going to be the one holiday that stands out as the best you ever took, its important to properly prepare so that you can make the most of it. You could even start a travel blog to document your adventure. Here are some amazing destinations you might consider including in your itinerary.
AUSTRALIA
Australia is the perfect place for a once-in-a-lifetime holiday. Sydney is the largest city in the country and there are so many places to visit within its boundaries. From a harbour tour, you can see the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge. Bondi and Manly are two of the best beaches in the city. If you’re planning on travelling further afield, you might want to rent a car. The east coast up to Queensland makes for a particularly exhilarating trip, which could culminate in some scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef. You should also make time to visit some of the unique animals that call Australia home, such as the platypus, koala bear, kangaroo and wombat. The outback is another great destination for a road trip, with Uluru, hot air ballooning and tribal art among the top things to check out.
BARBADOS
Barbados is a stunning retreat in the West Indies offering plenty of opportunities to relax. While on holiday in Barbados, you can sunbathe on the many pristine beaches, visit the world-class golf courses and choose from a wide variety of accommodation options. Explore the South Coast Boardwalk, which includes fabulous restaurants, great pubs, good shopping and a lovely walk along the coast. Explore the coast even further by chartering a boat and trying deep sea fishing, scuba diving, snorkelling or other water sports.
MOROCCO
Morocco is an exciting destination and the city of Marrakech is one of its most popular cities. In the market, you can wind down ancient alleys and see tables of fragrant spices, beautiful textiles, and ethnic jewellery and trinkets. The streets are filled with travelling musicians, snake charmers, jugglers and other forms of entertainment. In the desert, you can try the Jebel Toubkal Ascent. This fascinating trek allows you to see villages that have been untouched by the modern world.
FRENCH ALPS
There are plenty of brilliant things to do in France, but if you like outdoor pursuits, the French Alps are the place for you. At Trois Vallees, Paradiski or Les Portes du Soleil, you will find world-class facilities, beautiful resorts and all of the winter sports you can imagine. There, you can try skiing, snowboarding, ice climbing, tobogganing and ice kiting. On more relaxed days, there are plenty of other things to do like explore the fabulous French villages, and indulge in amazing food and wine.
COSTA RICA
Costa Rica is a stunning country well-known for ecotourism. With an extensive coastline to east and west, water sports like surfing, scuba diving and snorkelling are on offer across the country. You can also try adventurous sports like white water rafting, guided jungle treks and guided canopy tours. This is a great place for animal lovers, especially if you head down to Corcovado National Park, where you might spot a tapir, puma or the elusive jaguar. Elsewhere in the country, you can help with animal conservation and or rehabilitation of sea turtles.
Australia is on my list of places to visit within the next twelve months. I can’t wait to explore the beauty of that country.
